Flame retardant SMC Resin

Since the carbon fiber composite family car of BMW i series release in 2013, carbon fiber composite materials have become more and more common apply to family cars. Fiber composite vehicles came out to reduce the carbon emissions, therefore it is widely used in public transportation. To fulfil these requirements, flame retardants need to be added into it. First, coating the resin on release paper in the SMC processing (Figure 1), and put the staple fiber on it (Figure 2). Rolling after lamination (Figure 3) for flattened fiber (Figure 4). In order to make the resin fully mixing with fiber, the viscosity of the resin would be controlled within a range. If the viscosity is too high, it isn't uniformly mixed in the fiber. If the viscosity is too low, it exhibits overflow during the rolling process. After standing for a while, until an optimum condition of ripeness has been reached. It will become SMC composite materials to make final product (Figure 5). We recently developed a two-component retardant resin for SMC composites. This resin passed UL94V-0 standard which is 2mm test pieces (Figure 6). This formula at 150 ℃/ 20 minutes, the Tg can reach 120 ℃ after cured, which meets the feasibility of mold release at medium & high temperature. The resin has good operating viscosity after mixing. It doesn’t exhibit too hard after cured, cause it’s easy to operate. Compared with previous SMC, it’s easier operation. If you are interested please contact us.
